It has indeed been an Endless Summer. (If you're too young to get this, come in and I'll explain it to you.) Here it is late September, still hot and still dry. I hope this isn't the new normal. If it is, take heart: we have lots of lightweight cotton, bamboo, and linen for summery tops and shawls. There's also lightweight wool, my personal favorite. You think it's too hot to knit or crochet? Au contraire. You have air conditioning, right? Most of our homes are the same temperature year round. We still drink hot coffee and eat cooked food, so what keeps us from our yarn projects? Only our psyches, and we can talk to them.
If you still think it's too hot to knit at home, come down to the shop and bring your project. It's comfortable here. Our group still meets on Tuesday mornings.
We're changing our hours, which only means we won't be open on weekends except on special occasions like the Yarn Crawl or Small Business Saturday. When I announced this locally, I was flooded with calls asking if I was (1) ill or (2) retiring. Neither, folks. Downtown Gainesville is catatonic-to-dead on Sundays. I can spend my time more pleasantly and productively in my garden or with my grandchildren.
What's new at the shop? We've added a selection of quilt fabric and notions. There are fall fabrics because I believe it will be fall someday...Maywood's beautiful Sweater Weather collection. Notions added are by customer request, items such as rotary cutters, blades, mini irons, etc. Come check these out. We still have florals, solids, blenders, backers, and lots of fat quarters.
There are new store models too, if you're ready to make fall and winter projects. Capes, cowls, hats, and pullovers. If looking at them is too warming, I'll put a fan on you. The warmth could be enthusiasm, though. These new projects are that good.
That's all for now. As usual, I have good intentions about doing this more often. Stay cool and stay in stitches.
