MIDSUMMER 2021

It hasn’t been ten years since I last wrote this newsletter, but it feels like it. What a year 2020 was! And just as I thought we were turning a new page, the only thing that changed was the calendar. We still have a pandemic, crime is up everywhere, and wildfires are raging out west. Closer to home my hard drive and web software crashed, causing my grey hair to increase, my blood pressure to rise, and my language to become saltier. I have had two surgeries and a serious illness. However, the sun is shining, my garden is growing, and life is good.

MASKS ARE BACK IN THE SHOP

Governor Abbott has lifted the statewide mask mandate. However, business owners may use their discretion about policies on their premises. Here’s ours: masks are still required in the shop with one exception. If you are in the Made With Love group (aka the Elm Street Hookers) and you have previously discussed it with me, you may leave off your mask when only other group members are present and working. If anyone else enters, you need your mask on.

If you enter without a mask and you don’t have one, you can choose to take a free paper mask from us, or leave. We’ve come too far fighting Covid to get lazy now, folks. Let’s all do our part to protect our health and the health of those around us.

CURBSIDE PICKUP/SHIPPING TO YOU

When the pandemic began, we started allowing curbside pickup of orders or shipping to customers’ homes. For those who are unable or disinclined to enter the shop, we still take phone orders to be picked up or shipped. We will ship your order anywhere in the USA. We do charge a fee to cover packaging materials and postage, Not sure what you want? We will text pictures of yarn if necessary.

WE’RE BRANCHING OUT!

Coming soon... a fabric/quilt supply department. Don’t expect a full-size quilt shop. (Where would we put it?) We have ordered cotton fabric, fat quarters, books, and accessories. We’re building shelves. Whenever all our back orders arrive, we will be ready to serve you quilters.

CHARITY PROJECTS

The aforementioned Made With Love group continues to knock out Knitted Knockers. Since we became State Providers in December 2017, we have given knockers to more than 1,500 women. We also create items as needed for Grayson Grand Central (help for the indigent and homeless), Abigail’s Arms (family violence shelter), and disaster victims in our area. Would you like to use your talents for these neighborly causes? The group meets on Tuesdays from 10:00-noon. For Knitted Knockers you provide your own approved yarn. For all other charity projects, we provide donated yarn, patterns, and needles or hooks if necessary.

CLASSES

Call for reservations. We teach knitting, crochet, and embroidery by appointment. Don’t need a class but stuck on a project? Come by and get help. Help for minor problems is free. If you’ve made a yarn sculpture and need it untangled, an aggravation fee will be charged.

BOOKS

We have a great new selection, starring the official, sanctioned knitting patterns from Star Wars and Harry Potter. There are easy books for hats and dishcloths, and (finally) knitting or crochet patterns to fit curvy women!

NORTH TEXAS YARN CRAWL

Mark your calendars! We will participate in the yarn crawl this year. The dates will be September 110-19. Our “sideshow” this year is fabulous: An exhibition/sale of original arts/crafts by four of our best friends. Participants are Kay Karns, cowgirl artist and photographer; Joe Conner, artist; Christy Cheaney, leather jewelry: and Oralia Reyes, art quilts. We know you’ll be excited at seeing all this talent in one place and find pieces calling your name.

That’s all the news from around the corner. Keep smiling, stay safe, and keep in stitches.
